Bloomberg News

Wells Fargo & Co., owner of the fifth-largest U.S. bank, voted against Hewlett-Packard Co.’s proposed $22.7-billion purchase of Compaq Computer Corp. A Wells Fargo spokeswoman declined to comment on the decision. San Francisco-based Wells Fargo owned about 4.5 million shares of HP as of December. Wells Fargo’s opposition strikes another blow to HP Chief Executive Carly Fiorina, who’s fighting to get enough support to win a March 19 shareholder vote.
