Gatherings Curtailed After 3 Riot Deaths
Police banned large gatherings and patrolled streets in parts of the western state of Gujarat after religious rioting linked to a Hindu ceremony elsewhere in India killed at least three people.
In other unrest connected to the ceremony, about 500 Hindu nationalists wielding sticks and traditional tridents stormed the state legislature building in the eastern state of Orissa, scuffling with guards and trashing offices. Police arrested nearly 100 activists.
Hindu nationalists Friday delivered two carved stones for a temple they want to build on the site of a demolished mosque in the northern town of Ayodhya.
