I applaud City Controller Laura Chick’s scrutiny of the Department of Water and Power’s bills (“Controller Rejects DWP Bills as Extravagant,” March 14). But it’s troublesome to think that some independent caterer who accepted the DWP as a client is losing money that is legitimately owed. Pay the bill for services rendered but dock the paychecks of those involved at the DWP to cover it. By not paying the bill, the DWP isn’t suffering, but you sure are harming the vendor who contracted in good faith. That’s simply bad business.
