New Zealand Diplomat Is Stabbed to Death
From Times Wire Reports
New Zealand’s deputy high commissioner to the Solomon Islands, east of New Guinea, was stabbed to death in the capital, Honiara, the New Zealand government said.
Police are questioning two people in connection with the daylight stabbing of 50-year-old Bridget Nichols, a 10-year veteran of New Zealand’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade who had been in the Solomons for a month, Foreign Minister Phil Goff said.
Prime Minister Helen Clark said the slaying was “a mystery. . . . We don’t know what’s behind this.”
