Red Hat Reports More Losses in 4th Quarter

Linux operating system supplier Red Hat Inc. said said its fourth-quarter loss widened amid falling sales, but operations excluding charges showed a slight profit.

Red Hat, based near Raleigh, N.C., said its net loss increased to $41.9 million, or 25 cents a share, in its fiscal fourth quarter ended Feb. 28, from a net loss of $24.2million, or 14 cents a share, a year earlier.

Excluding amortization of goodwill, stock-based compensation and restructuring charges, Red Hat said, it turned an “adjusted” profit of $1 million, or 1 cent a share, compared with a profit of $340,000, or no cents a share, a year earlier.

Red Hat shares lost 12 cents to close at $6.80 on Nasdaq.
