City Council Postpones Ormond Beach Decision
The City Council has put off action aimed at shaping the future of Ormond Beach, a 1,400-acre collection of seaside parcels at the center of competing development interests.
Following a three-hour public hearing last week, council members delayed until April 9 choosing a plan for the south Oxnard property, home to some of the county’s most fragile wetlands and some of its heaviest industry.
Besieged by a flurry of proposals, city staff members recommend breaking up the 1,400 acres into three planning areas, making decisions more manageable.
Environmentalists and nearby residents want the council to create a master plan for the entire area, earmarking much of the property as a wildlife preserve.
