Airport Official Admits Error in Skirting Security

From Times Wire Reports

The airport director who skirted security before boarding a plane to Dallas, causing dozens of people to be rescreened at the Texas airport, said he “totally screwed up.”

Charles Hayes, transportation director at Fresno Yosemite International Airport, said he didn’t realize he had bypassed the security checkpoint Thursday until the plane landed. Hayes said he arrived at the airport late and avoided security when he tried to catch a baggage cart headed to the plane. When he walked up to the plane, personnel told him to check in at the ticket counter and go through screening.

Instead, he went to the gate and checked his bag. “I thought I was trying to save time for American and ended up causing more problems,” he said.
