Only Pop in Bank Robber’s ‘Explosive’ Bag
A bank robber left behind what he said was a bag of explosives, sparking the evacuation of employees, customers and neighbors of a California Bank & Trust branch Thursday morning.
Police cleared a half-block area around the bank, on Camino Capistrano, while the county sheriff’s bomb squad inspected a black computer bag the robber left at a teller window.
The bag contained soda cans, sheriff’s spokesman Jim Amormino said.
The robber, who wore a beret, escaped on foot with an unspecified amount of cash, authorities said.
