A former medical supply store owner, facing federal criminal charges in an alleged credit card scheme, has been accused of stealing $250,000 from Medi-Cal.

Georgiy R. Sogomonyan, 38, is accused of 11 counts of mail fraud and five of money laundering.

Prosecutors say Sogomonyan submitted false claims to Medi-Cal, a state-federal health-care program for the poor. He allegedly obtained the names and identification numbers of Medi-Cal members and billed the agency for services he never provided.

Medi-Cal paid him $241,250, and individual checks he received ranged from $10,062 to $28,337, according to the indictment.

Sogomonyan was charged last year with possession of counterfeit bank credit cards and possession of a device used to create serial numbers for cellular telephones.
