From Times Wire Reports

More than 122 million original records from the 1930 census will be released April 1, providing a unique snapshot of the nation at the close of the Roaring ‘20s.

The handwritten forms include 30 questions on “marital condition,” literacy, employment, national origin and the language spoken at home before coming to the U.S.

Federal law requires that personal details collected in each decennial census be released after 72 years. When the disclosure law was enacted in 1952, the average U.S. life expectancy was 68 years; it’s 73 now.

The forms will be released on microfilm at 14 National Archives offices across the country.
