Ex-Prosecutor Pleads Guilty in Assault Case
A former prosecutor facing sentencing on felony assault charges avoided jail time Wednesday when a judge reduced the charge to a misdemeanor.
Donald Schweitzer, a former deputy district attorney who now works as a private lawyer, pleaded guilty to pummeling his estranged wife’s boyfriend last year as the man slept.
He could have been sentenced to a year in jail and $5,000 in fines, but Superior Court Judge Francisco Briseno put him on probation instead and ordered him to go to counseling and an anger management program. Schweitzer will have to serve time in jail if he violates his probation, Briseno said.
