Police Panel Delays Hiring Interim Chief
The Los Angeles Police Commission on Tuesday delayed hiring an interim chief to give commissioners more time to talk to leading candidates about the job.
Six people, all current or former ranking members of the department, are under consideration to fill in as the city conducts a nationwide search to replace Chief Bernard C. Parks.
Parks announced last week that he was stepping down after the Police Commission declined to give him a second five-year term.
Commission President Rick Caruso said Tuesday that he expects the commission to make a decision on the interim chief’s position at its meeting next week.
“The commissioners just wanted more information,” Caruso said.
