New World Flamenco Festival Set for August
The world premieres of two full-evening works will highlight the second New World Flamenco Festival, Aug. 9 to 18, at the Irvine Barclay Theatre. Yaelisa and her San Francisco-based Caminos Flamencos will dance the first performances of “Desde Cadiz Pa Aca” (Songs From Cadiz), Aug. 14-15. Yaelisa is the artistic director of the festival, founded in 2001.
The second new full-evening work, “Mas alla del Tiempo” (Beyond Time) by the Seville-based Compania Flamenca Andres Marin, will be danced Aug. 16-18. Compania Juana Amaya, from Madrid, will open the festival with a traditional mixed-bill program Aug. 9-11.
The festival will also include workshops and lecture demonstrations. The theater is at 4242 Campus Drive, Irvine. (949) 854-4646.
