Emphasize Ethanol

Share

Re “Big Noise, Modest Result,” editorial, May 1: I am mystified by your inability to acknowledge the most obvious benefits to be derived from the use of ethanol. You rehash the same arguments you have made time and time again--against pork barrel (“corn bushel”) politics and the perception that ethanol is “unneeded,” since new methods of reformulating gasoline eliminate MTBE without using ethanol to meet clean-air standards.

Ethanol is the best available option as an alternate fuel that can lead us away from oil dependence on the volatile whims of OPEC and the Middle East. Along with its clean-burning attributes, ethanol, unlike oil, is a renewable source of energy that can be grown and harvested annually without fear of exhausting a finite source of supply.
