Chief Parks’ Retirement Will Take Effect Today
Police Chief Bernard C. Parks’ retirement will become effective today, police officials said.
Parks, who has been on vacation for several days, signed an official notice of his retirement that was sent to the Police Commission on Thursday.
Deputy Chief Michael Bostic has been serving as acting chief. Parks announced last month that he would drop his efforts to win reappointment, having failed to garner the support of either the commission or the City Council. The Police Commission is expected to choose an interim chief Tuesday from a field of six candidates.
