Deputy Convicted in Credit Card Fraud
A Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputy was convicted by a Los Angeles Superior Court jury on Friday of using stolen credit cards to purchase nearly $9,000 in custom car wheels and rims.
David Osorio, 30, who has been suspended without pay pending resolution of the case, was found guilty on two counts of grand theft and unauthorized use of an access card, said Sandi Gibbons, spokeswoman for the Los Angeles County district attorney’s office
In March 1999, Osorio charged $8,900 worth of auto accessories at a Bellflower automotive firm using an unauthorized credit card, prosecutors said. During the trial, two store employees identified Osorio as the customer, Gibbons said.
Osorio has until Wednesday to post $50,000 bail or he must surrender until his sentencing May 31. He has been free on his own recognizance, but now faces a state prison term or probation.
