L.A. Sheriff’s Deputy David William March
“Slain Deputy Is Mourned,” March 5: L.A. County Sheriff’s Deputy David William March was laid to rest on Saturday. David was a close friend to my family. I’ve spent 32 years as a member of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department. I’ve attended many funerals under such circumstances in the past, but something I’ve never seen before developed during the procession to the cemetery through the streets of Santa Clarita.
Hundreds and hundreds of residents of the city lined the streets holding American flags and signs reading “hero” and “God bless our men and women in law enforcement.” Mothers, fathers, teenagers and very young children were saluting and showing the peace sign to the line of passing police and private cars as they traveled seven miles to the cemetery. Many of them were wiping away their tears.
I would like to express my thanks and, I know, the thanks of all of those in uniform for your support. God bless.
