Warrants Issued for 12 War Crimes Suspects
YUGOSLAVIA
A court in the capital, Belgrade, issued arrest warrants for 17 top Serbian war crimes suspects, including former Bosnian Serb leader Radovan Karadzic and his wartime commander, Ratko Mladic.
But the warrants issued by the Belgrade district court might not result in the suspects’ immediate arrest and extradition to the U.N. war crimes tribunal in The Hague.
Yugoslav authorities say they do not know the whereabouts of Mladic, Karadzic and several other suspects wanted by the tribunal, said Branislav Todic, chief investigative judge of Belgrade’s district court.
