From Times Staff Reports

Using a formula linked to the raises given the past two years to managers, unionized employees and police officers, Simi Valley City Council members this week agreed to hike their own pay.

The 7.8% increase, which does not take effect until after the November election, will raise council salaries from $890 a month to $959.42, or to $11,513.04 annually. The council’s last pay hike came in November 2000.

Council members in April raised their monthly expense allowance by the same percentage, from $375 to $404.25. Mayor Bill Davis, whose post requires more ceremonial duties, now receives $512.05 monthly, up from $475.

Davis and council members Glen T. Becerra and Paul Miller are up for reelection in November.

When added to a benefits package--covering life, medical and dental insurance, along with retirement contributions--council members in the fall will receive annual salary and benefits of up to $34,115.04, while the mayor’s compensation could reach $35,408.64.
