A marble statue unearthed in Athens last month is the third known masterpiece of an outstanding Greek sculptor who lived more than 2,500 years ago, archeologists said Friday. “This discovery is very important, as we now have a new masterpiece by one very renowned sculptor,” Greek Culture Minister Evangelos Venizelos told reporters.

The statue--a figure of a Greek youth, or kouros--was carved in the 6th or 7th century BC by the Sculptor of Dipylo, named after the place where his first statue was found a century ago. His real name is a mystery.
