Valley Secession

As a former third-generation Valleyite, I read your May 13 Commentary page about Valley secession, “Breaking Up Is Hard to Do,” with some knowledge of the issues. The theme of the anti-secession commentaries seemed to be that the Valley has no culture, no great museums, no public transportation, no fine arts facilities. These reasons show why the Valley should secede. The Valley paid (in taxes) for a great percentage of these public projects to be built, yet none are placed in the Valley. As its own city, maybe the Valley could build cultural facilities in its own neighborhoods.

I now live in Redondo Beach, which has no world-class cultural places yet seems to manage fine. The question should have been whether L.A. can survive without the Valley, not vice versa.
