From Times Staff and Wire Reports

After 16 days and 102 witnesses, the prosecution rested its case against murder defendant David Attias, who is on trial for allegedly running down five Isla Vista pedestrians, killing four of them.

Assistant Dist. Atty. Patrick McKinley on Tuesday questioned his final witness, California Highway Patrol Sgt. David Robertson, who supervised the extensive investigation. The prosecutor told jurors that Attias, 20, intentionally ran over the victims.

Attias’ attorneys will begin calling witnesses Monday in an effort to establish an insanity defense. He could be sentenced to life in prison if convicted on the nine felony counts with which he’s charged.
