Housing Crisis for Disabled Will Worsen

Re “Lack of Housing for the Disabled Alarms Groups,” April 14:

Your story stated that “although there is no official count of how much housing is available for the disabled, none has been built in at least five years.” This reflects a lack of civic responsibility for a group that has the least options for accessible housing. A similar situation exists in San Diego County.

Unfortunately, most people think that since the Americans With Disabilities Act was signed 12 years ago, all the problems for this population were taken care of by providing a few reserved parking spaces. As baby boomers retire, they will be disappointed if they think they will find housing suitable for limited mobility that often accompanies old age.
