Handspring Cuts Prices on Visor Models

Handspring Inc., a maker of hand-held computers, lowered the price on each of its black-and-white screen Visor models, seeking to boost sales and compete with rivals Palm Inc. and Sony Corp.

The computer maker cut the price of the Visor Neo, its least expensive model, by $20 to $149, matching the price of Palm’s m105 computer. Handspring dropped the price of the Visor Edge by $30 to $169 and the Visor Pro by $30 to $199, the company said.

Sales of hand-held computers made by Handspring and Palm dropped last quarter as the companies cut prices and consumers scaled back spending on the electronic organizers. Handspring earlier this month offered $100 rebates for owners of hand-helds who purchased a Treo, an organizer that doubles as a cellular phone.
