Democratic Rivals for Governor Wind Up Race
PENNSYLVANIA
Democratic gubernatorial candidates Edward Rendell and Robert Casey Jr. hopscotched around the state on the last day of their primary campaign.
About 300 supporters chanting “Casey! Casey!” and a Dixieland trio were on hand at the Capitol in Harrisburg to welcome Casey, the state auditor general who is backed by organized labor and Democratic Party leaders.
Rendell, a former two-term Philadelphia mayor, shook hands with subway riders in Pittsburgh during the morning rush hour before scheduled stops in Johnstown and his home city.
The winner of today’s primary will take on state Atty. Gen. Mike Fisher, who is unopposed for the Republican nomination.
