Teen Convicted in Fatal Shooting of Woman
A 19-year-old Oxnard man accused of gunning down a woman during a party was convicted Tuesday of first-degree murder.
Jurors took four hours to find Isaac Lara guilty for the death of Joanna Orozco, 21, who was shot in the back after leaving a party in Santa Paula on Nov. 7, 2000.
Jurors also found Lara guilty of attempted murder in the shooting of Orozco’s friend, Shane Longoria, 22. Longoria was shot in the arm. Lara was also convicted of shooting at an occupied vehicle and assault with a firearm.
Lara, a former Santa Paula resident, showed no reaction as the verdicts were read in Ventura County Superior Court.
Lara faces a life prison term. Sentencing is set for June 25.
