Alcatel to Buy Telera, Broaden Web Access

French telecommunications equipment maker Alcatel agreed to acquire closely held Telera Corp. for $136 million in stock, broadening its Web access product line to include voice technology.

Telera’s software uses voice extensible markup language (Voice XML) and other standards to allow telephone companies and other large corporate customers to access the Internet by telephone and enhance product offerings for customers.
