1,700 Homes, Firms Lose Phone Service

SBC Pacific Bell crews were working Wednesday to restore telephone service to as many as 1,700 homes and businesses in Van Nuys, officials said.
Customers--about 70% of them residential--lost service at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday when city workers severed a phone cable line.
