Sparks’ Buss May Be Fined

Johnny Buss, president of the Sparks, may be fined by the WNBA for remarks published Saturday in The Times regarding player salaries.

Neither league nor Spark officials would comment Thursday, but sources said WNBA Commissioner Val Ackerman was “infuriated” by Buss’ comments.

Buss said he would like to see salaries increase by 50%, or even double. The minimum salary for a veteran is $40,000 a season. Players negotiate salaries with the league, not individual teams.

The standard fine for remarks by players, coaches or team officials deemed “detrimental” by WNBA officials has been $500.
