6 Dead, 60 Missing After Landslide Hits
From Times Wire Reports
A landslide triggered by heavy rains killed at least six people and left at least 60 missing in a remote region of northern Colombia, authorities said. The landslide “destroyed crops, houses, everything it found in its path,” Carmen Duarte, mayor of Montecristo, told Caracol TV. Montecristo is near the communities in the San Lucas mountains where the slide occurred.
Aid had yet to arrive in the region, where rebels and outlawed paramilitary groups operate.
