Volcanic Eruption Covers Capital With Ash
From Times Wire Reports
A volcano outside Ecuador’s capital erupted, showering Quito with white ash that sparked health warnings and forcing the closure of its airport.
No injuries were reported from the eruption of 11,775-foot Reventador, 60 miles northeast of Quito.
Although there were no reported casualties from lava or rockslides, health officials warned the city’s 1.4 million inhabitants to stay indoors.
Authorities were also concerned that the ash might contaminate drinking water.
