From Times Wire Reports

Descendants of Armenian immigrants who built a small church nearly 80 years ago in downtown Fresno are worried the church will be demolished for a park.

The 5th District Court of Appeal plans to build a courthouse and park next to the Armenian Evangelical Church.

Midge Barrett, granddaughter of the Rev. Vahram B. Tahmisian, who started the church in 1923, has asked the City Council to designate the church as a historic building because of its architectural style.

But Fresno’s Historic Preservation Commission has ruled the church did not qualify as an official historic property.
