At least two people have died of a deadly strain of dengue fever in the western Mexican state of Jalisco, and officials are investigating whether others have contracted the mosquito-borne illness, health officials said.

At a news conference in Jalisco’s capital, Guadalajara, officials said they had confirmed two deaths and are investigating three more. State Health Secretary Alfonso Petersen said standing water left by Hurricane Kenna caused the outbreak in and around Puerto Vallarta.
