Man, 71, Found Dead in Fire-Ravaged Trailer
From Times Staff Reports
A 71-year-old man was found dead early Thursday in a small travel trailer that was gutted by fire in Orange.
The unidentified man apparently fell asleep while smoking, causing the 11:20 p.m. blaze at Orangeland Recreational Vehicle Park at 1600 W. Struck Ave. Damage was set at $15,000.
“Apparently he has burn scars from neighbors putting out fires on his chest in the past,” said Orange police Lt. John Whiteley. “They’re pretty sure it was accidental. Apparently, he tried to get out and was overcome by flames.”
