From Times Wire Reports
An off-duty Nepalese guard of the U.S. Embassy was shot dead by three unidentified gunmen, police said. Deepak Pokhrel, 35, was shot in his house, about three miles from the embassy in Katmandu, police said.
They said Maoist rebels were suspected, but it was not clear if the shooting was related to the six-year insurgency.
Offices of American nongovernmental groups such as CARE have been attacked in the past by the militants, who want to turn the Himalayan kingdom into a communist state.
