Streep keeps children’s lives private

Share

“My children are not photographed and celebrated as my appendages ... as much as they’d love to be!”

So says Meryl Streep in the new Interview, a magazine overseen by the genius Ingrid Sischy. Streep says her four kids “would enjoy being photographed and on the cover of something. But I think it’s terrible to do that. They’re not publicized by me, so they retain a certain integrity as citizens of this country that I don’t enjoy. I can’t sue anybody for what they say about me. But my children can. And that’s the way it should be. They should have their own lives!”

I love the British press. They report that Sandra Bullock and Hugh Grant, who have the romantic comedy “Two Weeks Notice” coming any minute, have “driven the American media into a frenzy of excitement about what is really going on in their relationship.”

Funny -- I haven’t noticed any frenzy, have you? Bullock treats Grant as if he were a naughty child she has to keep under control. Both of them have constantly denied that they are anything but colleagues. I think we can take them at their word.
