An 80-year-old jazz musician has died of injuries suffered during a Nov. 5 beating outside his retirement home, becoming the city’s 100th homicide victim this year, authorities said.

Three attackers threw Taswell Baird Jr. from his wheelchair, beat him and robbed him of $80. He died Friday.

Baird’s daughter, Meredith, said her father would not have tried to fight off his attackers. “He valued his life more than that,” she said.

Baird performed on recordings by Ella Fitzgerald, Charlie Parker and Louis Armstrong.
