From Times Wire Reports

Gurkha soldiers who fought for Britain in World War II won the right to government compensation as former POWs more than 50 years after being taken captive by Japan.

High Court Justice Richard McCombe ruled that denying the money was irrational and inconsistent with the principle of equality, said lawyers for three Gurkhas who sued. The government argued that the Gurkhas were part of the Indian army and ineligible for the program.

Each of the three will get $15,500, and a few hundred other Gurkhas could also benefit.
