Re “Scores Lag in Higher Grades,” Nov. 24: Good college admissions officers consider high school graduates’ SAT scores, the level of challenge in the courses they took, their grades, their extracurricular activities and the degree to which the students have overcome challenges. When administrators tell students that colleges consider high schools’ Academic Performance Index scores when they look at individual applicants, they avoid stressing the truth about the API: Chambers of commerce, real estate agents and home buyers are really the only ones who care about these virtually meaningless numbers.
