Drought Has Cost Them $2 Million, Ranchers Say

Cattle ranchers say they have suffered $2.4 million in losses and have been forced to cut their herds because scant rain for two years has left rangelands without enough grass for grazing.
The Tulare County Board of Supervisors declared a state of emergency because of the drought, hoping to get some financial relief from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. Rainfall has been down about 75% over the last two years, said Jim Sullins of the UC Cooperative Extension in the county.
