Missile Tested After Similar Pakistani Test
Soon after Pakistan test-fired a missile, India tested one of its own, raising fears of a renewed arms race. India called Pakistan’s test a publicity stunt ahead of next week’s general elections.
Pakistan’s information minister, Nisar Memon, said India was trying to “turn this into an arms race” by testing a surface-to-air missile with a range of about 16 miles on the same day that Pakistan tested a nuclear-capable surface-to-surface missile with an estimated range of more than 350 miles.
Both India and Pakistan portrayed their tests as routine and notified each other in advance.
