Fighting Rages Near Eritrean Border

Fighting is raging in eastern Sudan between government troops and forces that Khartoum says are backed by Eritrea, Sudanese state media reported.
Khartoum last week blamed Eritrea for attacks in Kassala in eastern Sudan. The National Democratic Alliance--a Sudanese rebel group--claimed responsibility for the attacks, and Eritrea has denied Khartoum’s accusations.
Relations between Eritrea and Sudan have been cool because each alleges the other gives sanctuary to rebel or dissident groups.
