Blast, Possibly From Land Mine, Hurts 3 Marines
Three U.S. Marines were injured in an explosion Thursday, and U.S. officials said they may have been wounded by a land mine as they set up a training exercise.
None of the injuries were believed to be life-threatening.
The blast came two days after gunmen killed a Marine in what appeared to be a terrorist attack elsewhere in Kuwait and one day after a Marine reported firing at a man who pointed a gun at him and other Marines.
In Washington, Pentagon officials said the explosion Thursday occurred as Marines were setting up a training exercise on the Udari range on the Kuwaiti mainland.
The injuries included puncture wounds to arms and legs, the officials said. The names of the injured were not released.
Several Kuwaitis have been tied to Osama bin Laden. Suspected Sept. 11 mastermind Khalid Shaikh Mohammed is said to have been born in Kuwait.
