Coalition Asks Davis to Press for State Park

From Times Staff Reports

A coalition of environmentalists has written to Gov. Gray Davis to urge him to continue supporting efforts to convert a trailer park at the historic Crystal Cove State Park into a state campground.

The residents of the El Moro trailer park, whose leases expire in two years, have sued, accusing the state of an inadequate environmental report for a state park.

“The public bought the land for Crystal Cove State Park in 1979, and it’s their turn to enjoy El Moro Canyon and beach. El Moro Canyon is the only access point in the park for both beach and canyons, and the conversion to a much lower-intensity use will benefit both public and wildlife,” said Elisabeth Brown, president of Laguna Greenbelt Inc., one of the coalition groups.
