What: “Major League Remodel”
Where: Do It Yourself Network
When: Friday, 4 p.m.
Shows on Do It Yourself, a sister channel to Home and Garden Television and the Food Network, can be about as exciting as watching paint dry. But if you happen to be someone who has thought about turning a room in your home into a multimedia entertainment center and sports memorabilia room, this one-hour show may be worth watching.
Greg McMichael, a relief pitcher who spent eight years in the majors, is the host. He shows viewers what he and some friends, including former Minnesota Viking kicker Fuad Reveiz, did with his unused, unfinished basement in his Atlanta home.
A wet bar is created from plywood and chain-link fencing and bats are used to make a foot railing. Jennifer McMichael uses baseball cards, magazine covers and newspaper articles, plus a lot of varnish, to decorate the top of the bar.
The gang also builds a special bat rack and adds a built-in bookcase that can hold a 56-inch TV. Memorabilia broker Tony Cocchi and Hard Rock Cafe designer Christine Gould offer tips on displaying and caring for baseball collectibles.
In the end, the room is a nice place for McMichael to show off his memorabilia, trophies and rings. This could turn out to be something Angel players might want to look into.
