Condit’s Children Seek Defeat of Primary Victor

From Times Wire Reports

Rep. Gary Condit’s children are urging people to vote against the man they say betrayed their father by challenging him in the March primary for the 18th Congressional District seat.

In Chad and Cadee Condit’s one-page letter addressed to “Friends, neighbors and fellow Democrats,” they accuse Dennis Cardoza of being self-centered.

Cardoza, a Democratic assemblyman from Atwater, was a onetime aide to Condit (D-Ceres). He beat the incumbent in the primary.

Cardoza, who had initially said he wouldn’t run against his friend, entered the congressional race after Condit became embroiled in the Chandra Levy scandal. Condit, 54, reportedly told police he had an affair with the 24-year-old former federal intern. Levy’s skeletal remains were found in May. Police are continuing to search for her killer, but Condit has never been named a suspect.
