Ramirez Without a Clue

Share

In his Oct. 17 editorial cartoon (Commentary), Michael Ramirez suggests that the commitments and contributions to world peace of Jimmy Carter and Yasser Arafat are somehow equivalent. What thought processes were involved here? (“Carter is a Democrat. That’s bad. Arafat is a terrorist. That’s bad. Therefore, Carter and Arafat are both bad.”) Is Ramirez attempting to bring Carter down to the level of Arafat or Arafat up to the level of Carter?

I enjoy thought-provoking commentary, whether or not espousing viewpoints I agree with. In the case of Ramirez, however, it’s not a matter of agreeing or disagreeing but rather of being disappointed that The Times offers such a distinguished platform to one so utterly clueless.
