Web Site Promotes Pet Shelter Adoptions

Thank you for “Pet Adoption Made Easier by Volunteers at Rescue Web Site” (Oct. 13). The article draws a good picture of the range and quality of animals that can be adopted from public and privately supported animal shelters and of how Web sites can play such an important and increasing part in adoption programs. Having said that, I would like to point out that the Los Angeles Animal Services Department has a state-of-the-art Web site that provides photos and complete descriptions of all the animals at the six animal shelters: www.laanimalservices .com.

This site updates its photos and provides “current status” information on all animals almost instantaneously. In fact, coupled with an aggressive adoption program, this site is the reason that animal adoption rates at city shelters have, over recent years, increased by over 40%. We believe it offers a ray of hope to all shelter animals waiting to finally be taken home.
