The Possibilities Are Endless

If the Breeders’ Cup isn’t enough to quench your wagering thirst, there are other opportunities today.

Besides the entire 11-race card from Arlington Park, which is playing host to the Breeders’ Cup for the first time, bettors at Santa Anita and its simulcast facilities will be able to wager on seven races from Keeneland, three from Aqueduct, six from Louisiana Downs, seven from Turf Paradise and 10 from Bay Meadows.

There are also seven live races at Oak Tree, the first of which comes at 9:45 a.m. After taking time off for the Breeders’ Cup, the card is scheduled to resume at 3:05 p.m.

While the local circuit’s other top riders are in Illinois, Laffit Pincay will be busy at home. The world’s winningest jockey has mounts in six of the races. After sitting out the opener, Pincay will ride Pacific Colony in the second, likely favorite Orange’em in the third, live longshot Dotage in the fourth, recent winner Jaklin’s Last Kin in the fifth, comebacker Don’t Holler in the sixth and maiden Miss Freedom in the seventh.

The main event as Keeneland wraps up its meet is the $150,000-added Fayette, a Grade III at 1 1/8 miles.

The Fayette attracted only five entrants, topped by Tenpins, who has won six of nine for trainer Don Winfree and is two for two at the track.

Race of the day: The sixth at Santa Anita has attracted a field of 12. Besides Don’t Holler, other prime contenders are Greenland, Torsionnaire and Well Struck.

Who’s hot: Shescominundone. The 3-year-old gray daughter of Runaway Groom won her third race of the Oak Tree meet when she took Friday’s second.

Who’s not: Bay Meadows. The powers that be at the Northern California track apparently believe their races are as important as the Breeders’ Cup as they will go head-to-head with the Breeders’ Cup for almost three hours.

Exotically speaking: A pick three using Academy Spy, Habaneros and Pacific Colony in the second, singling Orange’em in the third and Is It True Mex, Kolinor, Champ’s Star, Martel and Royal Highlander in the fourth.
