Car Bomb Kills 2 Ahead of President’s Visit
A car bomb set in front of a school killed two police officers and wounded 11 other people in the town of Arauca hours before President Alvaro Uribe visited.
Arauca, in eastern Colombia, is part of a special militarized zone declared by Uribe last month, but rebels have continued to attack roads and energy installations throughout the oil-rich region.
U.S. Special Forces are in the region to check out the security situation, U.S. Ambassador Anne W. Patterson said last week.
A larger contingent will arrive in a few months, she said.
